BAND BASICS

  • What’s your name and what do you play in The Resignators?

Simon - bass.

  • How long have you been with the band?

Almost 2 years now, started rehearsing with them in April 2023.

  • How did you first get involved with The Resignators?

I had been a fan of the band since I moved down to Melbourne and we had played several festivals and smaller gigs together before an opportunity came up to join on bass which I grabbed with both hands.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES & FAVORITES

4. What was the first album you ever bought?

The Presidents Of The United States Of America - II

5. Who are your top three musical influences?

Tom Morello for his riffs and creative approach to the guitar, Jason Black for tasty and unique bass lines, and Laura Jane Grace for unwavering creative output in the face of adversity and for every Against Me! song ever.

6. What’s your favorite Resignators song to play live and why?

Booze And Tattoos - probably my favourite groovy bass line and the crowd loves it because it’s a good tempo for dancing.

7. If you could collaborate with any artist (living or dead), who would it be?

Derek Grant. An insane drummer who would be fun as hell to lock in with and has a songwriter’s mindset for creating compositions.

ON TOUR

8. What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?

Opening for Pennywise in 2015 with Bombs Are Falling was pretty rad, it was the first time I had played a venue of that size and the first time opening for an international band.

9. Funniest or weirdest thing that’s happened on tour?

Waiting in the airport in Brisbane en route to Sydney and receiving a text from Francis letting us know that he was in Cairns was definitely unexpected. His early flight was cancelled and the only way he could get down south was via a very long detour north.

10. What’s your go-to snack or drink on the road?

Monster Zero Sugar. With enough caffeine you can surpass the need for sleep.

11. Any pre-show rituals or superstitions?

Stretches, make sure my equipment is working, and I like to walk around the venue to get a feel for the space before the crowd gets in.

PERSONAL VIBES

12. When you’re not making music, what are you into?

Hanging out with my dogs, running, and getting out to support other friends in their musical endeavours.

13. What's a fun fact about you that fans might not know?

I play several instruments, teach music as a career, and am able to pick up most things music related pretty easily, but I cannot whistle to save my life.

14. If you weren’t in a band, what would you be doing?

I’d probably join or form another band.

15. Describe your perfect day off.

Wake up early, go somewhere beautiful for some kind of physical activity whether that be running, surfing, or a hike with my dogs, get a good breakfast, have a nap to recharge, do something creative in the afternoon whether it be music or other art, and then go out to see some friends and their bands in the evening.

FAN CONNECTION

16. What’s one message you want to give to Resignators fans?

Every time we get to get on stage and play songs for you guys we feel like the luckiest people in the world. It’s an absolute gift to be able to do what we love and feel the love back from you guys and we appreciate every moment.

17. What’s been the most memorable fan interaction you’ve had?

At Supernova we met several American fans and had them sign an inflatable kangaroo which they carried with them around the festival getting signatures from other bands. We saw them every day and they became great friends of ours.

JUST FOR FUN

18. Pineapple on pizza: yes or no?

Yes. I am a pizza anarchist. Everything goes on pizza.

19. Zombie apocalypse – who in the band survives the longest and why?

Me. I learned from Zombieland that cardio is king. The others think I’m going for runs in the morning for some kind of fitness goal but really I’m just planning out escape routes.

20. If The Resignators had a theme song (other than your own), what would it be?

Reinventing Axl Rose by Against Me! Check the lyrics, it's pretty close to the mission statement of this group.
